Master of Science, Registered Nurse Track
As a master鈥檚 student in our MSRN track, you will receive an exceptional education that prepares you to become a highly skilled registered nurse. Our curriculum and supportive program reflect our commitment to social justice and belief in the intrinsic value of every student and patient. This program offers you a fast path to professional nursing.
Program Eligibility
- An undergraduate grade point average of B or better
- Completion of prerequisite courses

Applicants are responsible for ensuring that coursework they have completed satisfies the prerequisite requirements. The graduate program staff will not contact applicants during the admissions process to verify prerequisite coursework.
Direct entry students are required to complete prerequisite courses prior to the start of the program. All prerequisite coursework must be completed prior to matriculation.听Students must receive a minimum grade of B- (80) in each of the prerequisite courses. AP credit is听NOT听accepted as fulfilling prerequisite coursework.

Grounded in our Jesuit, liberal arts tradition and aligned with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials, our competency-based program outcomes ensure graduates master the vital skills required for modern entry-level nursing practice. These outcomes are organized into 10 distinct domains of nursing practice, which serve as the foundational pillars that define the core knowledge, clinical judgment, and professional behaviors necessary to deliver safe, compassionate, and equitable care.
Domain 1: Knowledge for Nursing Practice
Integrate concepts from liberal arts and the natural and social sciences to develop clinical judgment and a philosophy of care that guides professional nursing practice.
Domain 2: Patient-Centered Care
Provide evidence-based, compassionate, person-centered care that values the intrinsic worth of all human beings and integrates altruism, autonomy, human dignity, respect, integrity, and social justice.
Domain 3: Population Health
Collaborate with individuals, families, community partners, and other healthcare professionals to promote health and prevent illness through safe, effective, equitable care and policy that improve population health outcomes in a diverse and global society.
Domain 4: Scholarship for the Nursing Discipline
Evaluate scientific evidence and theoretical knowledge from nursing and other disciplines to promote health and prevent illness.
Domain 5: Quality and Safety
Compare established and emerging principles of safety and improvement science to promote quality health care to minimize risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance.
Domain 6: Interprofessional Partnerships
Initiate intentional collaboration and effective, respectful communication with professional partners and care team members to address healthcare needs and optimize healthcare delivery and outcomes.
Domain 7: Systems-Based Practice
Coordinate systems-level opportunities and resources to provide safe, high-quality, cost-effective, and equitable care for diverse populations.
Domain 8: Informatics and Healthcare Technologies
Synthesize data, communication technologies, and informatics processes to form information to support decision making in accordance with professional and regulatory standards to deliver safe, high-quality, efficient, and equitable care to diverse populations.

Cultivate a professional identity that includes accountability, integrity, civility, perspective, a collaborative disposition, respectful behaviors and leadership qualities that reflect nursing鈥檚 characteristics, ethics, and values.

The Connell School and Boston College offer multiple opportunities to fund a graduate education. CSON graduate students receive financial assistance through internal and external sources鈥攊ncluding scholarships, fellowships, grants, teaching and research assistantships, and tuition remission.

Goal Statement
Please respond to the two prompts outlined below as they pertain to your goals. The responses should be typewritten, double-spaced, and limited to 1.5 pages for each prompt. The essays are very important to the Admission Committee鈥檚 deliberations, allowing them to assess your personal goals, your reasons for choosing advanced practice nursing as your career, your commitment to the profession of nursing, and your writing ability.
Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation:
- A recent employer/supervisor who speaks to your level of professional practice.
- A professor or instructor who assesses your potential for graduate study and performance in your desired area of study.
- Letters of recommendation must be submitted electronically. When you register your reference writers through the application system, they will immediately receive an email with the link to the electronic reference form. For this reason, we suggest that you contact your references prior to registering them through the online application.
- References will have the option to upload a supporting letter in Word or PDF format.
- If you would like your references to receive the electronic form before you have completed the online application, you may go directly to the 鈥淩ecommendations鈥� link on the application and register your references before filling out the rest of the form.
- You can log back into your application to check which letters have been received, as well as to send reminder emails to your references.

International Students

- NCLEX-RN Examination results/RN licensure
- Evidence of English Proficiency听(TOEFL). Official TOEFL scores are required for听students whose native language is not English. The following scores indicate听minimum听score requirements: 100 on the TOEFL iBT (internet-based test); 7.5 on the IELTS Band (academic); 600 or greater on the paper-based test; or 250 on the CBT test (computer-based test).听Please request that your scores be sent to the William F.
